CAPSICANA COOK SAUCES – REVIEW

I am one who loves added a burst of flavour to my food. I guess my influences have come from the food I was brought up with and the places I have travelled to. From classical French, to prickly North African, and although I have no yet been the Far East. The best ways to make these dishes stand out, in my eyes, is to cook everything from scratch! However there are some nights, getting in when I am just not feeling it. This is where cook sauces come in. I have never really fund one that stands out from the crowd. One that offers you something different. That is until I stumbled across Capsicana. The cook sauces that bring you the taste of Latin America. Considering it is on my ultimate travel bucket list I saw I was onto a winner! The sauces come in three delicious flavours, inspired from three spicy countries, with different heat levels. What you make with them is up to you, however on the packets there are some great recipes ideas alongside the website. I also just adored the packing and branding, and though it was so sweet that my package arrived with a little bag of worry dolls….. cute right!

THE CAPSICANA STORY

I founded Capsicana because I absolutely love chillies and Latin American food. I’ve eaten in many true Mexican cantinas and the inspiration behind Capsicana began back in the late 90’s when I was living with my Dad in Texas. We used to go on road trips all the time – most memorably, to visit friends in cities such as Austin and San Antonio. Both have large Mexican communities and it was here that I first laid on eyes on proper Mexican food, and this soon became my default cuisine of choice, whether we were going out for dinner or I was just grabbing something by the side of the road. Everything about it grabbed me – most particularly all the delicious varieties of chillies.

MEXICAN CAPSICANA COOK SAUCE  – CHILLI AND HONEY

As this one was totally Mexican inspired, it would have been rude not to go Mexican themed. Considering we love Mexican in out household it was perfect! So we held a big old fajita night, I mixed the chicken in with some sauce and peppers, cut out some paprika wedges all served with a big bowl of salad. I loved this sauce especially topped with some Oatly creme fraiche. The chilli and honey added something excitement to the everyday wrap so glad I chose this sauce to play with! The sweetness of the honey balanced well with the kick of chilli, and considering I am super soft with heat, it went down really well.

PERUVIAN CAPSICANA COOK SAUCE – CHILLI AND LEMON

With this sauce holding an element of lemon, I thought it was the perfect pairing to go with some fish! This was a super easy dish and rustled it up with some rice along with roasted courgettes and aubergines. They all married perfectly together as I knew they would with a heat burst coming from the sauce!

BRAZILIAN CAPSICANA COOK SAUCE – CHILLI AND COCONUT

Brazil is absolute on my wishlist so to be able to get a taste from home was fab for me. Although I wont deny this dish was a complete throw together, and I wish I had of used the inspiration from one of their recipes. However this night time was not my friend and I had to do a Nigel Slater. Throwing in some onions, garlic, baby corn and beans, it made a great mash up and really just proved how great these sauces are. You literally can add anything to them and it makes your meal taste amazing.
