Just a stones throw away from Piccadilly, a new restaurant opens its doors with Italy at its heart. Enzo. An establishment holding to core Italian family values. With a warm and friendly environment serving up authentic and unique traditional Italian dishes. This is not the first taste of success from owners James Skade and Carrie Slater, as their first opening in Nantwich clearly pleased rumbling bellies with their Award winning pizza. Now branching out and delighting Manchester with delicious offerings such as handmade pizzas, freshly made pastas and hom ebaked cakes. Can we please not forget the breakfast pizza’s. Yes you heard me right breakfast pizza. I am already sold. If this menu doesn’t sell it to you then maybe their story. Forced to commute to work due to a car breakdown, James made his way to work everyday on the bus. His days were always brightened by the Italian bus driver Enzo, whose dream was to open an Italian restaurant. Having to impromptly return home James decided to follow his dream for him and launch Enzo, forever bringing brightness to his day. Greeted with a glass of prosecco and fed copious amounts of pizza and cake, I couldn’t ask for a better night with my cousin.
So lets move onto the food. We were constantly given a new slice of pizza so weren’t short of tasty nibbles throughout the night. Instead of ordering off the menu, pizzas were carried round for us to just grab taster slices of. This allowed me to get a real feel for the menu, getting to taste more than one pizza. Of which I am so grateful for as there are some amazing flavour combinations here.
EGGS BENE PIZZA ★★★★★
I am going to start with my favourite as this was by far the best in my eyes. Part of the breakfast pizza menu this one takes a spin on the classic eggs Benedict.. and it works SOOOO well. I mean this was just delicious, a perfectly cooked egg, that was at its peak just between runny and solid, topped with juicy ham, and smothered in this amazing honey and mustard hollandaise. Forget breakfast pizza I will eat this any day.
MARGHERITA SUPREME ★★★★★
All I would eat as a child when it came to pizza was a Magherita, so I am no novice on this matter. I love adding buffalo mozzarella to a pizza, it adds a whole new taste and I find it a lot creamer than normal stuff. Essentially this is a pimped up Margherita which I adore, and the taste of the fresh basil oil that runs through is divine.
ENZO ROYALE ★★
This low score it utterly and entirely based on personal preference. I do not feel bolognese on a pizza, its really not my scene. However the bolognese was well seasoned and tasty and the base wasn’t soggy like I would have expected with bolognese on top. Maybe one if you cant decide between pizza or pasta.
HOT SAUSAGE ★★
Again this is due to personal preference as I am so soft when it comes to spice things and this blew my top off. If your a heat lover then this one is right up your street!
DOUGH BALLS ★★★★★
Now these little babies were on a whole nother level. When you bit into it and that fondue cheese melts into your mouth its like a pool of heaven. I loved the addition of blue cheese it added a lovely punch of flavour and made for something different. My cousin, she doesnt even like blue cheese and she fell in love with these one. Oh and the garlic butter its served with is on point. You can tell its freshly made.
I also enjoyed the most delicious flapjack that mimicked a snickers so was a winner in my eyes! A lovely rich chocolatey brownie and the best made Irish coffee I’ve had, and I am coffee trained.
VENUE : ★★★★★
Set in such a good location just a 5 minute walk from Piccadilly gardens you couldn’t ask for a more local pizza place. Its oozes comfort and warm whilst displaying modern touches. I always love an open kitchen in a restaurant, it creates more of a connection with your food. Its nice light and airy and the opportunity to people watch through their ceiling to floor glass windows. I loved the fun pop of colour that trailed though added to their signature green. With a carnival light display stating PIZZA. Over all a very pleasant venue that just sends you good vibes.
ATMOSPHERE : ★★★★★
I have already mentioned how friendly the atmosphere was. Its ooozed Italian family as we were welcome with open arms. The waitresses were so lovely and chatty. It was the perfect temperature and the lighting was great. Everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Who wouldn’t with prosecco and pizza.
STAFF : ★★★★★
I couldn’t fault the staff one bit. They have a good crowd there. There were chatty, smiley and attentive. They knew their stuff about all the foods they passed around and dietary requirements. They also know the background story off by heart and delivered it with passion which I though was excellent.
PRICE : ★★★★★
For what you get I think Enzo is great value for money. A lovely place to stop off once you’ve finished your shopping or have a catch up with your friends. Even for students to pop in grab a coffee and settle down for some work. The pizzas are freshly made and whats more they taste good. Perfect for any occasion and affordable.
Moving to Manchester I am glad that Enzo is now on my radar. I will certainly be popping in again for a bite to eat and a glass of bubbly in the future. Its a spot that you cant fault and I loved that they were so open to feedback. Thanks for the invite guys and see you again soon. Check out Enzo yourself by clicking on the links below.
