Last year my partner won the most incredible prize. A trip to Goodwood races on ladies day. I have never been a big goer on horse racing. Apart from on my Birthday, we always make a cheeky bet on The Grand National, in memory of my grandad. Therefore the opportunity to head to one of these prestigious events, was pretty much once in a lifetime. A once in a lifetime event it most certainly was. Everything was covered and paid for by Dove all down to a tee. We got money for new outfits, money to spend on the day, and all our travel and accommodation was covered for.
WHAT IS LADIES DAY AT GOODWOOD RACES?
Ladies’ Day is the most glamorous day of the meeting, and is truly the place to see and be seen. The prestigious Group 1 Qatar Nassau Stakes is the highlight of the seven-race card, worth £600,000. There is plenty of action both on and off the track with three group races and the unique ladies celebrity race, The Magnolia Cup, taking place.
Our journey there was absolutely insane. We had a car pick us up from the house, to then take us to the airport, where we would catch a plane to Heathrow. When arriving at the other end, we were welcomed by a gentleman in a suit holding our name up. So stylish, it felt like something out the movies and I felt very important and sophisticated. This was followed by a long journey to our BnB, about an hour and a half. However our driver was lovely and we were in conversation the whole way. He took us to our BnB and waited till we were changed to then take us to the races. As we pulled up in The Richmond enclosure next to the Rolls Royce’s and sports cars, I felt so special and well very quiet posh.
WHAT IS THE RICHMOND ENCLOSURE?
The prestigious Richmond Enclosure features stylish bars including the Champagne Lawn and 1812 Bar, a number of restaurants, private boxes and offers the best vantage points of the Parade Ring and Racecourse – including views directly opposite the winning post as well as covered seating within the March Grandstand. There is a Dress Code for this Enclosure.
We stayed in the absolutely stunning Spinney Mill BnB. We wont divulge that much as will be writing a separate post for this spot. It is a converted place in the middle of the countryside with only 5 bedrooms available. However this makes it so much more special and intimate rather than a grand hotel. The decor was beautifully elegant and the owners were so lovely, catering to our every needs. The room was spacious with all the mod cons and a lovely view to the horses in the fields. In the morning we went downstairs to be welcomed by a lovely lady who offered us whatever breakfast we could want. It was cooked to perfection. We were so lucky to be put in such a stunning place.
The races themselves were an incredible experience. As I mentioned it is not something we would ever go to, so it was great to be able to experience. We arrived and went straight to place some bets. We had no idea what we doing and no nothing about horse racing. So as you do we just picked the ones we liked the names of. We went and got ourselves a bottle of wine and we were off. Ready to sit in the enclosure. I must admit I felt waaaaay out of place. Everyone there were members and posh totties and we so did not belong. However the atmosphere is so tense and it was really exciting. You get really caught up in it all, and I can see what all the hype is about. When the horses are approaching, everyone is tense and standing up in their seats, egging on their horses. I was enjoying myself so much, and enjoyed myself even more when we won. Yes we won. We actually won 4 out of 7 races, so left with more money in our pockets than when we came in. It was blooming brilliant. I only wish we were daring enough to bet more money. Hey I guess thats how you can loose big time. Overall we had an incredible time, and a day that we wont be forgetting on a hurry. I made a dodgy make shift video that you can check out on my YouTube and below you can win some Dove goodies.
