So, today I had what I can only describe as an incredibly surreal morning! If you watched my Insta, you would have seen I partook in an amazing experience, something my mum has always wanted to tick off her bucket list! Yep, that’s right at 6am we floated off in a hot air balloon! I was lucky enough last year to win a virgin experience voucher, and so I decided to get in the brownie points and gift my mum with a trip for multiple Birthdays and Christmases – dam I just figured I now have to buy her a pressie this year! However, I am sure she will agree it was worth it!
Now fortunately for us our day went to plan… but we didn’t expect it. Ringing the flight line Tuesday afternoon we realised all the flights that day had been cancelled! The weather was stunning and the sun was shining we hadn’t even thought about how the wind would affect our flight! We anxiously waited until 11pm and rang back the flight line! Yes, we were on, ready to fly from Kirkby Lonsdale at 6am!
An early start at 430, it felt like we were heading off on holiday! Grumpily I downed a brew and drove down a calm motorway – not before scratching my nanas car ! We were getting more excited as we approached the set off location – we honestly couldn’t have picked a better day to fly and luck seemed to be on our side.
We arrived – and our hearts sank as we heard the stories of how people had been trying for 7 years to go on one these things! Some had even got into the basket and been told they can’t go on! Aha but today would mean success for everyone!
What you don’t realise is that you get involved in every part we lifted of the basket and the balloon, unravelled it, blew it up – I mean this thing was HUGE – and finally we were in the basket and ready to go! Honestly, no joke you couldn’t even feel the balloon lift off the ground – it was so light in motion and it happened so quickly and all of a sudden we were floating in the air!
Nothing can actually describe the feeling – I expected my stomach to go and the air to get cold – but no we were calmly floating above, literally like on a cloud in one of the most picturesque places in the UK with the sun shining upon us! It really makes you see what a small piece of an incredibly big and beautiful world we are! We flew for an hour, and reached 4500 foot, we witnessed deer running and clouds clearing! It was serenity, it was peace and it was a once in a lifetime experience that I got to share with someone I love! We even got a perfect landing… BOOM! Until the wind blew us over in the end! Something I would recommend and would experience again, and again and again!
Would you go sky high?
