On Saturday I awoke bright and early, popped on my shades and sunhat and got in the holiday mood. That’s right I was jet setting off to Ice Lolly’s #blogatthebeach Ibiza themed bloggers party. Having not made it to many blogger events in the past, this one was sure as hell one I was not going to miss. The opportunity to meet a whole host of new blogger friends, as well as some great talks by some ultimate pros. Leeds may not be in the Balearic’s, but there was sangria waiting for me, so armed with my trusty notepad off I went.
Heading to these things are always rather daunting, there are always people who already know people, and it is never easy walking into a busy room of nattering heads. Finding your way into the conversation can be tricky, yet with Sangria in hand and a host of ice breaker question for my next travel post, I managed to glue myself to the lovely Charlotte and Tina. I was looking forward to this day as there were 3 enlightening speakers that were here to offer some invaluable information on how we can improve and monetise our blogs and social media channels. After a quick chit chat we sat down in a room full of balloons and paper at the ready!
RHIANNA BOWE – HASHTAG REALNESS:
So if you don’t already know Rhianna, then well where have you been?! She was one of the first people I stumbled upon when I started blogging, and there is no one better to get some Insta tips from the flatlay queen herself. Honestly she has some of the dopest shots around, so it was one to pay attention to. I think she did a great job and I was so happy to learn about UNUM and PLANNERLY – I honesty don’t think my Insta life will ever be the same again! I have been searching for tools like this forever now so it is great to have discovered these amazing new apps. It was also comforting to learn that a lot of what your doing is already going right, and the things you think may have mattered really don’t – like where to place your hashtags, and people don’t tend to like chatty stories! All round jolly good show and I can’t wait to watch my Instagram grow.
JEN LOWTHROP – FUN CREATIVITY TECHNIQUES:
I loved this session, maybe I am bias because won a book out of it, but there we go! I found Jen’s talk really inspirational and helpful! There are many times when you can suffer from writers block, and it is great to find new ways thinking outside the box to get new creative ideas and inspiration. It’s all about learning to let loose a little, don’t get embarrassed, be playful, curious and positive. I thoroughly enjoyed one of our challenges which was turning to a partner to get some new posts ideas. Of course lovely Charlotte gave me heaps of inspiration so watch this space. Also loved the way that Jen turned it into a true Ibiza party by having a dancing session. Ha! Jen also asked us to write a poem so here goes…..
Experiencing an event names #BlogAtTheBeach,
A load of new inspirational bloggers I get to meet.
We talk about adventures, travel and wine,
Take polaroid photo’s we can back at in time.
We learn knowledge, URL’s and insta hashtags,
SO we can grow our blogs and make front page of the mags.
Thanks Ice Lolly, I owe you a drink,
Please take me to Ibiza or my heart will sink.
JESS GIBSON – HOW TO MONETISE YOUR BLOG:
Writing a blog can start as a hobby, but when things get serious and you can cash in some notes at the same time, Jess is the one to go to. I first noticed Jess on a flight back to the UK when she popped up in my in flight magazine. SAY WHAT?!! Yeah I know right, this girl means business. This talk was incredible, honestly the thing I loved the most was her sheer honesty. It always seems to be a taboo for bloggers to talk about what they earn and how, so it was amazing for her to be so true and open about the options and possibilities out there. Good ways to get on side with the brands and great websites to go to. I left this chat re evaluating my blog completely. Yeah you like my new look? Anyways thanks Jess, amazing, I look forward to reading more about your travels.
For my first real blogger meet I do not think this could have gone any better, we all headed over to The Alchemist for cocktails, so we could get to know each other a little bit more. It was a full blown success and I have now made some great new blogger friends, and had a good chat with the Ice Lolly team. Thanks for hosting Ice Lolly and can’t wait for the next one!
Did you take any good tips from this post? Do you get to attend many bloggers events?
