As you are probably well aware by now I live in the middle of bumfluff nowhere. A worn down town that lived its hay days during the height of the slipper industry. That being said it means I am surrounded by beautiful countryside, countless reservoirs and open fells. It is pretty easy to lead a healthy lifestyle here. We always walk to do our Tesco shop, which is six miles. There are amazing places to go bike riding along with stunning walks. Having all those joys does not come without its pitfalls and finding healthy foods is one of them. Where I am options are limited. Health Foods shops are pretty much about an our away which sucks. However that is where companies such as Indigo Herbs come in. I am not one that tends to do a lot of internet shopping, however this sounded like a perfect solution to my problem. They asked if I would like to review their products and services and whip up some tasty recipes. This review is running later than scheduled so apologies.
WHO ARE INDIGO HERBS
Indigo Herbs is natural health company that specialises in natural health products of the best quality, at affordable prices. On their website you can see a wide range of high end quality Superfoods and Herbs. They are an advocate of well-being and healthy living, helping you on your journey by providing the most natural and finest products. This comes across so well in their branding, which I absolutely love may I just add. I found their website really simple to use and navigate my way through, which is surprising given the vast array of products they have on offer. From natural chocolate making kits to herbal tinctures. There is something for everyone. I chose two products from their site, that being Spirulina and Almond Butter. They arrived quick and fast and I have thoroughly enjoyed using them in my recipes. So much so I am a returning customer and can now add cacao powder, raw cacao nibs and coconut chips to my collection.
I chose the spirulina powder, as it was something was absolutely raved about last year. A superfood with a whole host of health benefits. Also known as blue/green algae it is a complete protein, so great for a post workout smoothie. It is also packed full of Vitamin B, Iron, Potassium and Vitamin E. So you know your getting a good load with a tsp of this stuff. However among the health chat there are so many people who dislike the taste and find it hard to incorporate into their food. I took this as a challenge and this is what I came up with.
SPIRULINA & KALE PANCAKES
– Crack you eggs into a bowl sift in the flour, kale & spirulina powder, salt and pepper.
– Whisk together until all combined.
– Heat up a tbsp of olive oil in a non stick pan.
– Ladle in your mixture.
– Once they start to bubble flip them over.
– Serve with smoked salmon and a dollop of quark.
In this house we are massive nut butter fans. Well actually I have to admit before I tried this from Indigo Herbs we were strictly PB lovers. However we have converted to the other side, and now have a collection of butters. Not only is it organic but its 100% raw, meaning pure and free of any additives or preservatives. Almond butter generally contains more Vitamin E, Magnesium and Iron. Oh and almond butter had roughly 25 percent more monounsaturated fat than PB. Not to forget it tastes blooming amazing.
NO-BAKE NUTTY BANANA BARS
– 1/2 cup of mashed banana
– 1 packet of Winter Blend Blondilox
– 1/4 tsp of cinnamon
– 1/2 cup of pitted dates
– 1 cup of cashews
– 2 tsp of flaxseed (We use Linwoods)
1 tbsp of Almond butter
– Line an 8×8 tin with greaseproof paper.
– Blend together the dates and banana until you have a smooth consistency.
– Then add in the cinnamon, cashews, flaxseed and oats.
– Process together again for around 5 mins until you have a smooth mixture.
– Spoon it into the tin and level out.
– Then place in the freezer for around 3 hours.
– Keep them stored in the freezer until ready to be eaten. Can be enjoyed directly from the freezer.
