La Comptoir Libanais is in the newly revamped Spinningfields. There lies a vibrant alley of deliciousness and culture, with a string of yummy restaurants ready to wet your appetite. Choosing some where to eat when we are out is somehwhat quiet tricky, with my partner liking both large portions and spice, and me, well i am weak when it comes to hot food. Indians and buffets tend to get quiet dull after a while and the quality of food is somewhat desirable, so when we headed to Manchester for the day we decided to venture somewhere new.
It had been years since I had been to Spinningfields, and it had changed quiet a bit with an array of new restaurants, and we opted for the colourful and vibrant, La Comptoir, everything from the menu, the smell to the decor appealed to us. As we entered we were welcomed by a very friendly and funny gentlemen, who I could only assume was the manager, he made us feel very welcome and relaxed even though we were arriving quiet late into the evening. We were seated quickly and soon soaked up the Arabian atmosphere The restaurant is colourful, bright and warm filled with traditional design and had some fabulous modern arabic music playing. With an open kitchen the mouthwatering smell of deliciously spiced food was wafting through the restaurant.
I ordered a strawberry Fanta, as you do not get those around here, and it came bright red in a proper little glass, and tasty fab, probably not best for my teeth though. I went on to order the falafel wrap with hummus and my partner chose the lamb kebab. I found the meal very tasty and to my liking, as a fan of falafel i was pleased, it wasnt too greasy or heavy and nicely seasoned. The lamb was cooked to perfection, so tasty, tender and full of flavour, very traditional, he could have eaten twice as much so best to order a starter if you have a big appetite.
On the whole I would definitely go back, and we have been back since, both ordering a tagine which was stunning and very filling, it was such a pleasurable experience, and my partner can really vouch for the authenticity in flavour. I love how they have lots of Arabic products for sale, if you wanted to try making your own tagine. I think the whole layout and vibe of the restaurant is really well thought out, and you feel very relaxed. A restaurant I would recommend if your wanting to try something different and a tasty flavour.
