Can someone please tell me what happened to the past 365 days as they seem to have just flown by me?! I mean can you believe it’s the 2nd day of 2018 already?! I swear I go into each year stating ‘this will be my best year yet, I will achieve all my goals’ and this turns out to be a load of BS! Ha, firstly I don’t believe a year will go by without its up and downs and secondly there is not enough time in the day to reach all my goals in a year! This year has been a funny old one – there were a lot of changes in my life and I mean A LOT! It was a year of a new career choice and a new home. A year of new travels and adventures. A year of celebrating old friendships and new. A year of laughter and tears. A year of bad choices and good stories. So, I am going to look back at 2018 and give you my year in review.
January was a quiet month, like most I guess I spent it getting into a better routine after Christmas, relaxing and trying to figure out some goals (that I would never achieve) for the year. My nana actually adventured from the country to the city as we got her Strictly tickets then took her for afternoon tea. I spent a lot of time in the Lake District with my friends and god-daughter – this was where this incredible shot was taken.
Feb was a pretty good month for me – as you may have seen I enter competitions, and it has become rather lucrative for me. In fact last year I wont tickets to the BAFTAs. Say what?! Yes, it’s true – I had an incrediblish time – I wish I had chosen my little cousin as my chaperone, however an experience on the red carpet is a memory that will last a lifetime! As well as the goody bag. I went to watch two amazing artists in concert, Party Next Door – whom I’ve loved forever. I also met up with some concert friends (literally friends I made at a concert) and watched Khalid – whom is massive now and played all over the radio. My bestie and I were invited to a cool Giff Gaff which was LOTS of fun and my friends from the Lake District finally braved the motorway to visit me in the city.
My papa and I made it into The Telegraph with an article about how music brought us closer together, I didn’t write the article but paps has been taking me to gigs since I was 16. Our first ever concert was Kasabian in a teeny venue just after they released Empire. I also got snowed in at my nanas for a few days – something that won’t happen anymore now she has moved. No snow day booo! I attempted to make a prosecco cake, I wouldn’t recommend it! I had a fab time at my aunties 60th. My friend won a trip to a cottage in Scotland so we camped out there for a few days. In one day we got drunk at a gin tasting event, I passed my theory and I won enough money to buy a car. You can’t write can you – well I am actually but it’s un bloody believable.
April marked my birthday! YEY! And I celebrated for like 2 weeks. I saw another two incredible concerts. Dua Lipa, where we were super lucky as she was supported by Col3trane and we saw Jacob Banks. I sent my little cousin off to her first solo blogging event with Visit Cyprus, she had the bestest time.
Wedding season started and I worked and witnessed some beautiful marriages. I spent a lot of this month when not working with friends and family in the Lake District. The weather was sunny and hot and that is a great place to be when it’s beautiful outside.
June was an incredible month for me – girl only went and passed her driving test WHOOP and bought a car. Working at Parklife was a blast. I went to London for my friend’s birthday and my cousin got engaged! I finally went to Portugal with papa, we flew out to see a concert which was incredible. We joined our dear late friend Simon who got a box – I have always dreamed of having a box at a concert and it was as good as I thought it was.
In July I made use of my car and did a lot of driving around – the weather was so great and I could visit the countryside and the beach! I also took mumma on an experience of a lifetime on a hot air balloon ride! How can I forget that France only went and won the World Cup – allez les bleus! At the end of the month I headed into Edinburgh for one of my oldest friends hen do!
This girl got into uni to study my PGCE and then worked a lot to pay for uni ha! I took a little trip to London with my bestie and her little one and did a two-day city jaunt. The weather was good so I mainly enjoyed that and got a mean tan! I also did some amazing shifts with Nintendo – then it was time to leave Manchester.
Moving month and as I leave the city life gets quieter. Ha! Well a little quieter! I head off to another concert which was an orchestral rendition of the Notorious BIG – it was incredible! I went for lots of Autumn walks and tried to settle into uni life as a mature student – it was hard!
One of my oldest friends got married eeeeek – it was a magical day. My other friend was Maid of Honor, so I had the lovely job of babysitting for the day, then I got relieved at the night do time for some fun. I flew to France with my step sister and her daughter to visit my dad in his new digs! I also went to a uni reunion in Leeds which was so wonderful to catch up with everyone.
November was also a super busy month and things got festive! We were invited to a Moonpig #MerrierTogether event – in which I got really drunk and made a new friend. The gift guides went up. I did all things Christmassy and to round off the month went to watch Lauryn Hill and had my first experience of a school residential.
And the end was near – what an absolutely mental year. I have agreed to myself that in 2019 I am going to slow down a bit. It’s all fun and games being everywhere all the time but also exhausting so I need to cool it and concentrate on uni! To top the year off I took my friend to Manchester to watch Ben Howard, watched the little missus Nativity as well as having a reunion with my friends from school. I picked my uncle up from the airport who came over from Kenya with his family for Christmas and took a cheeky Christmas trip to London to be a Winter Wonderland slut.
How was your 2018? Best bits?
