Let’s be honest time is this sneaky little guy that slips away from us! The amount of things we’d be able to achieve if we just had a little more time on our hands! Relationships is just one thing that can suffer from our busy busy lives and we need to re-engage with how important it is to spend time with lived ones. We all have those friends and family members that no matter how long we leave it our relationships stay the same but just because they can withstand that time and distance does that mean we shouldn’t try to squeeze that time in? Many of us have an incredibly busy daily routine which means weekends are no longer there for having fun. It’s exists for house chores and life admin. Weekdays are forever neglected as time to have those catch ups! Too tired? Too busy? I think it’s time we change that! Get your day to-night outfit ready and head off for that well deserved mid-week meal out! Last month my cousin, his fiancé and I did exactly that. We all missioned over to Pen and Pencil in the Northern Quarter for its Wednesday night deal and a good catch up! what’s better is Wednesday is its live music night!
If you go on a Wednesday, you will be lucky enough to grab a great deal. 2 mains a bottle of house wine for £30 makes the perfect midweek meet up! I was torn between the octopus, hake and steak, but as I was starving I opted for the steak – it had been a while. It came just how I ordered medium rare, and was a pretty decent size. My friend dared for the octopus, which when it arrived I got slight food envy! It looked divine and apparently tasted so! My cousin went for a burger but, there was no chance of getting a quick snap of that, he eats like he hasn’t been fed in weeks! Ha!
I must say I was very interested and impressed by the sides! You will often find something greasy and stodgy which can prove tricky when trying to be a little healthier! However, I found some Cajun baked okra and some deep-fried lotus root – both something I had never tried before and both surprisingly delicious.
The staff were super busy all night, running around and probably getting a fair sweat on. The gentleman who seated us and took our order was very pleasant and even threw in the lotus root as we were so curious.
I had heard good things about this trendy little spot and it always looks lively so I was very impressed with our visit and would recommend it – especially on a Wednesday night.
