We have become a generation of travellers, with an insane amount of opportunity to travel. Gap years, bloggers, jobs where you jet off all over the world. We crave to explore, to adventure and discover. However I have slowly come to realise that there is so much to discover on your own front door. We yearn to get away, fly to the tropics, surf the warm seas. Yet forget the simple pleasures that our country offers. So here I have found some astounding hotels opening inspired and set in the most beautiful surroundings. Here are THE top 5 new hotels opening 2017.
THE SILL – HADRIAN’S WALL, NORTHUMBERLAND
Being brought up in the Lake District, I spent my childhood visiting Hadrian’s Wall. I also spent a fair bit of my childhood on rambling and walking adventures thus staying in various Youth Hostels around the country! I even had my own card that excited me greatly! So this new 86 bed hostel and discovery centre looks incredible. Hosting music nights, exhibitions and plays, this eco friendly building, is set to be a super cool hotspot. It is a grey dry stone wall, with a green roof that visitors can walk on. As well as being set in the dark skies, perfect for them meteor showers and looking out over Northumberland national park.
The Sill opens July, group bookings open now, individual bookings from Feb, beds from £19.25 B&B, yha.org.uk
GOTHIC REVIVAL, MANCHESTER
Set in the middle of Bruntwood Park, this Victorian Gothic inspired sister hotel offers 22 rooms over 3 floors, including a bridal suite. The park itself is home to bootcamp fitness classes, BMX tracks and archery. Perfect for an active yet relaxing getaway.
Opens late March, doubles from £135, oddfellowsonthepark.com
THE LAKE, ULLSWATER, THE LAKE DISTRICT
This is one of my absolute favourites on the list, totally bias I know as I from the Lake District. Yet places like Ullswater will always hold a dear place in my heart! Run by the guys over at The Watergate Bay Hotel, they are adding a new set of palaces to their growing kingdom. The first to be the oh so cultural The Lake, set with stunning views over Ullswater. Serving up locally sources foods such as Herdwick lamb and Morecambe Bay shrimps. As well as having ownership of their veggie patch, herb garden and walnut grove. Accompanied by a jetty for open water swimming, hammocks and garden swings. A countryside retreat.
Opens 1 August, doubles from £160 B&B, another.place
SOUTHAMPTON HARBOUR HOTEL AND SPA, SOUTHAMPTON
This has to be my absolute second fave on the list. Completely inspired by its surrounding, literally, this hotel takes the form of a grand yacht, set in Ocean Village. I am no marina by miles, however the sheer luxury and grandure of this hotel, puts it on my list of MUST GO. Just to eat scallops and drink champagne on the roof terrace!
Opens late summer, doubles from £145 B&B, harbourhotels.co.uk
ATLANTIC HOUSE, CORNWALL
This part of England also holds a soft spot in my heart, after spending my childhood camping along the shores, body boarding in freezing waves and eating scones with clotted cream. However I have yet to have the luxury of staying in four walls. Well Atlantic House seems the right time hey, the 12 rooms hotel along with nine sea facing flats placed on the cliffs of Cornwall overlooking its gorgeous seas. Seaside perfection in my eyes! Dishing up locally sourced foods with a french twist. This is the spot to be this summer.
