So I recently received the cutest little well being box from Neal’s Yard, with a whole host of little delights. However I am going to talk about my fave. You are well aware that I am not a fan of tap water from my POW energy post, so I was delighted to see a bottle of organic Elderberry syrup. I love home made cordials and my mum is one of the best at making them. They feel so natural and pure and just have a complete organic taste. I absolutely adored this syrup, I mixed it with plain water, (however you can add it to porridge, pancakes, pretty much anything you want), and added some ice, cucumber and fresh mint leaves. It was super refreshing on a nice hot day, and the thing I liked the most is that the flavour wasn’t too overpowering. It is nice a subtle and goes well with the cucumber. I find most cordials are quiet sweet and therefore doesn’t really ever quench your thirst, however this was perfect. The best thing about it, is that Elderberry can work wonders for your health. Rich in antioxidants, elderberries help to support the body’s immune system, protect healthy cells and ward off infections such as colds and flu.It is used for its antioxidant activity to lower cholesterol, improve vision, boost the immune system, improve heart health and for coughs, colds, flu, bacterial and viral infections and tonsillitis. Elderberry juice was used to treat a flu epidemic in Panama in 1995. There is your history lesson for today. Anyways I thoroughly enjoyed this drink and would recommend it, the bottle last ages too. The perfect drink for a hot summer’s day.
